I voted 4-6 and then counted 8 lids around the hosue. Didn't think I had that many.

Hate to throw them away after paying so much for them and then taking as good care of them as I could for so long.

I even have the Arai lid that like only 5 copies were made of. It later became the RX7-RR. It's actually a Signet with the diffuser on top - first lid with a diffuser that they made. I knew the Arai rep and got access to one of them. Hate like to Hell to pitch it in the trash now....

I'm in the market for a new Shoei, anyone know of any good sites to buy from?

I've purchased all 4 of my lids along with various other items (including boots & leathers) through www.kneedraggers.com (http://www.kneedraggers.com) I cant speak of them highly enough. They have been extremely pleasant to deal with!

Note to mods: Sorry if I was not supposed to post vendor names, I will remove if you like.

2-Shoei X11 and a Suomy Spec 1r. Helmetharbor seems to have the best online prices unless you have a local network that beats any shop and online store.

7 hats, favorite is the old skool Schwantz Arai. The carbon Momo half helmet is my concession to the Texas heat, it also doesn't weigh much, unfortunately I'm grabbing for it more and more.

Excuse the sheep suit in the corner, I'd get banned if I said any more. :lp

To all you X-11 owners, how do you like it? I have the RF 1000 and it's just okay.

I also have a Suomy Gunwind and two Arai Quantums.

I'm deciding between the RX7 Corsair or the X-11.

I'm deciding between the RX7 Corsair or the X-11.

This my first Shoei helmet and its a lot better than myRX7RR4 I had. All of my previous helmets were a 2001 Arai Edwards, a Okada Quantum E, a Suomy Bostrom Spec1r, and Suomy Biaggi Extreme. The shape of my head is a round oval so all of them would leave a red mark around my forehead. The RX7 was the most comfortable out of the rest.

Now, the last Shoei helmet I tried on a was an old Okawa lid back 2002 and it was very uncomfortable on my temple and forehead areas. I recently tried on the Abe X-11 last year and ironically, it was very comfortable and contoured my head really well. The sales rep man told me leave it on for 15mins to see if any pain come up. After 15 mins it still maintained that even fit. He mentioned that the X-11 shape is a lot different then the previous flagship helmet.

It was long before I sold all my other Arai's and got the Shakey Byrne lid. Honestly, it's a better constructed helmet than the Arai's and Suomy's, especially the quick release visor. If you think the Suomy and Arai's visors can be a pain-in-the a*s even after removing it multiple times, the Shoei's are a breeze. Plus it comes with a breath guard and a seperate chin/wind deflector. The venting system on it is a lot more noticible on the X11 too.

A couple of gripes I have is if you don't have the breathe guard in, it tends to fog up a lot easier. Also there are not too many designs but other than that, it's a very nice helmet!

:1

I've owned 2 Shoei's (X-SPII & X-Eleven) and 1 Arai (RX-7RR4) and must say for comfort and fit the Arai fits my head best. But the Shoei definitly has the Arai beat over ventilation by a longshot. When I buy again I will buy the Arai, especially since they started internet sales again :mad (Long story) but in the end I would suggest that you TRY on both lids and see what fits you best, I would rather have a lid that fit me properly in case of pavement, etc. than a little more ventilation. I like the old Shoei RF 900s, I got 3 of them. I had a Shoei 1000, crashed in that hard. That's gone.:( I am using my Shoei 900s now.

When I go to a trackday/race, I always carry two suits, two pair boots, two pair gloves, and two helmets. One day, they told me my helmet was out of date. I used the other one..

For my mx bike I use a arai, but i tried the arai street and it pushed on my forehead pretty bad. Tried the shoei x-11 and rf-1000. Both fit great. Bought them both off e-bay. I think it was 58cycle.

I know there are a lot of trick looking helmets out there as well as trick Ducati helmets!
If you have a pic of your Lid please post up.. I would love to get an idea of what to get to go with my 1098..

Or if you will be purchasing a lid just for the 1098.. lets see a pic!

Here's what I rocked on my 998... Debating on using it or getting a new one.

That lid is tight! I would keep it.
Mine on the other hand is blue so I dont think it will go with the new red 1098. Kind of sux all my gear is blue.

thnx... I went from a Shoei to this Ducati Suomy, but this Suomy tends to fit WAY tighter than most other helmets of the same size.. But I guess that's could be a good thing in a crash:wflag

lol.. that is a bummer about your gear... looks like you'll be tacking on an additional $1,500-2k to that 1098 purchase :biggrin

4 helmets. Two for summer riding and track days (liners come out for washing) and two for winter (I don't sweat then).

I bought this McCoy Arai RX-7 Corsair (I was going to buy a Arai anyway) specifically because of the graphics. I really liked the red/white/green in it as I thought it was appropriate to display the Italian colors on a Ducati.

I'm getting that helmet as a left over when I pick up my bike next month. I have the same one now, but all white.
