As soon as the 1098 hits the ground, figuratively, I'm going to drop of wad of money on aftermarket stuff that I don't need but can't help. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of buying for the 1098 in the near future.

What about soliciting for sponsors, working on discounts that would attract more members, and get price competition for our dollars.

much is going on that is not "visible" on the forum YET
the folks who run this forum are quite aware of the "needs" of this fine forum

the bike is months away from being in the hands of the majority of folks here
most aftermarket stuff isn't even available yet, of course

be patient and you SHALL be rewarded

added: I should have known a plan was in the works, good luck!

Excellent! I've never so ready to buy stuff. For vendors it's going to be like shooting fish in a barrel.
For those of us who are used to higher prices for Ducatis, mentally I feel like I can spend more on aftermarket stuff with the pricing of the base model.

The subject of forum sponsors/vendors has come up, and spalding said it well...until we start getting people with bikes there really isn't a need. Also, I think it would be premature to start letting sponsors on the forum so soon, without giving it time to grow.

Sponsorships are not always about bringing $$ in to the forum, but about providing reputable retail establishments to members of the forum, establishments that are of the highest caliber (reputation), and who also contribute to the forum.

I wouldn't expect to see any forum sponsors on here prior to Spring 2007. By then, we will have had a chance to grow and get an assessment of what the members want/need.

Thanks!

Phil

Thanks for the replies. I get that the bike/parts aren't here yet which might be a good reason to have a place for manufacturers and retailers to release information while members are mulling over their purchase options...for example:

-should I buy the DP Termi's with the bike from the dealer or plan for an aftermarket exhaust? A manf. or vendor could have a place to let us know a product is coming and help with decisions that are being made at vehicle purchase. My dealer recommended ordering the full system with the bike since he anticipates a shortage.

-Ohlins: aftermarket suspension options might influence buyers decision between the Base and S models. One dealer told me that the Ohlins 1098 specific fork might only be available thru Ducati dealers, non DP 1098 Ohlins would have caliper brackets unlike the stockers.

-discounts on DP catalog items are likely offered only at the time of purchase, so many buyers are making decisions as they take delivery, and if you want that exhaust or carbon chi chi you'd likely be ordering before delivery.

I know stuffs not out yet, but it soon will be and any information from the aftermarket is good to have sooner rather than later. It's nice to know what options are coming up, it's not entirely about impatience.

Having said all of that, I suppose the regular forums are as good of a place to do this as long as they are not seen as spammers and shills.

I hope this post doesn't come across as disagreement. It's intended purely for discussion.

Congratulations on the success of the forum, I've certainly enjoyed hanging out here.

Stopped at Ducati Seattle tonight. They have the 2007 accessories catalog. I dropped a little "wad" Consolidated mentioned...... It has begun. At some point you're going to need a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.

good luck getting any tourniquet to stop the bleeding once you actually have possession of the bike :biggrin

I can probably have several sets of rearsets done within 2-3 weeks of getting my hands on the stock rearsets - need them for measurements.

I hope to make lots of pieves for this bike and am oing to go after it in a way that I haven't before. In the past, I made ones and twos of parts and kinda left it at that. This time, I'mm gonna make a prototype and then have them made for me elsewhere in quantity.

It'll be fun for sure, but I'll probably lose my ass on it <gg>.

When you guys are ready for sponsors, please contact us. We are always willing to chip in.

We can help out with group buys as well.

BST asked me today if I can take 25 Carbon tanks for the 1098....I would bring in two per month normally--but if the group wanted some tanks at a good price, I would bring in more...

Between the 500 members here we can set up a "I got kicked out and need a place to crash until my wife chills" network. I know I'll likely need it. Sort of like the BMW's on the road buddy system, but instead of for mechanicals it's for "maritals". As in...

"Yeah, it was a good vacation until we had a marital. The only way I could fix it was to put her on a plane."

(all jokes between the boys honey if you read this)
