View Full Version : Wife buying a bike for you?

Call me crazy, but if you had your heart set on a particular type of motorcycle and your wife wants to do something sweet and kind and buys you a motorcycle as a holiday surprise... Would you really be happy with that?

For instance... you want a 1098 and your better half who enjoys 2 wheel excursions is 100 percent on board with this goes behind your back to surprise you and ends up buying you a Monster instead (as 12-25 deadline occurs), would you be upset?

I WOULD! Motorcycles are a personal interest for me and I am very particular about the style, make, color, size, etc. and a nice gesture could backfire here!

I'm in the middle of something with a third party over this and they are not communicating with each other at all and it's going to kill the enjoyment of motorcycles in general. What are everyone's opinions on this issue??

get the bike you want
IF your wife loves you... then she'll understand

there is no question about this

telling your wife that YOU LOVE HER... 10 times/day will help, however :biggrin

There are two solutions: first one, you should "communicate" earlier which is the bike you prefer and your wife should understand the message, or second one, buy yourself a 1098 and let her to learn how to ride HER Monster.:biggrin

If she does not understand, change your wife. If you are not strong enough to tell her no, kill yourself immediatelly. Otherwise, you are going to die slowly and painfully over the years.:1poke :)

If your wife buys you a motorcycle, and I don't care what kind, then you should be eternally grateful and worship the ground she walks on.

I on the other hand have a wife that doesn't like bikes and I have a snowball's chance in hades of her surprising me with a bike for Xmas or my bday.

But then again I don't need her help. :biggrin ;)

I don't think "upset" is the right word, I'd be dang happy she had done it. but yeah, there'd be mixed emotions for sure. I guess some of it comes down to why she bought the one she did though. If she bought it because it was available but the other one wasn't, then I'd be looking in to working with the dealer to get what I wanted instead.

If she bought it because she could occassionally ride along on for instance a Monster, but won't ride on the back of a 1098 (and I wouldn't blame her for that!) Then I'd smile and enjoy my new Monster. But then, I'm just as likely to buy a new Monster as a 1098 (848???) so maybe I'm biased.

nucking futs would be an ideal candidate--if only your wife would get you a new 1098 under the tree this year!

If my wife got me a 1098 I don't think my ticker would be able to take it. I'd keel over and die from the shock or become a blubbering idiot! Of course I'm worth more dead than alive so it's not out of the realm of possibility albeit remote. :badteeth

But then what would I do with my 1098S that's already on order??? :biggrin :cool

I would ride the bike for a season and then at the end of the season ask her to learn how to ride it while I bring home the 1098.

Just trade it in on the bike you want.
