Anyone planning a trip to Deals Gap this year? Would be great if some of the new 1098 owners could get together. Kind of like the R1 owners have a weekend up there.

if i can work out the date, i'd love to attend
Deals gap is a good time, but pretty crowded. Northern Georgia is much better for riding IMO...

You use Deals gap as a start off and lodging point. From there you can take trips to the skyway, Blue ridge Parkway, loop or whatever. We usually ride on 200 to 500 mile day trips.

I've never disagreed with anything Spalding has ever said, so this is a dark day in history. But The Cherohala Skyway sucks dog balls for sportbike riding. More of a Gold Wing road I always thought.
The only way to make it remotely interesting is to go 95 mph plus the whole way. But it's so heavily patroled now - particularly on the NC side - that high speds are bad idea.
North Georgia is getting to be just as bad for cops. Weekend rides down there are perilous at best to your license. The aritficially low speed limits around Suches on 60 and 180 don't help things at all. Blood Mountain is crawling with GHP on the weekends.
Shady Valley is even getting bad for cops.
We're gonna have to find a new place to play.

1. sometimes, THE VIEW.... IS the thing
2. where can we go on the EAST coast as i have NO idea how folks in california get away with all these fast rides in the canyons?
I heard rumors that R1L is not fast at all :badteeth

West By God Virginia is the spirited rider's paradise in the east. The state has about 4 State Troopers, great roads and the beer is cheap!
It's not all that central to many people, but a great place to go.
But Deal's area is good as everyone knows how to get there, has a favorite hotel / restaurant / bar.

Same here. Been all over Cali many times and Colorado / western Utah kicks it's ass. NC / GA / TN kick it's ass, too.
NorCal is nice though. Anything south of Santa Rosa they can keep all to themselves. Friend of mine lives in Garberville (Humboldt County) and the riding there is pretty nice and very much like North Carolina only the trees are taller and everything costs twice as much.

Just a heads up.
I rode the Gap recently in my Supra with the RX-7 club.
Word is from a Trooper that is a friend in that county that the legislation recently changed.
SO.....
Looks like they'll be enforcing and patrolling MUCH more on the Tail of the Dragon....
Not good for us...

One thing that is true about West Virginia: they have the nicest people I've met anywhere in the world living there. Have yet to meet a real jerk on my many trips there.
Very nice place.

Always makes a trip better when the locals are nice. Was treated very rudely several times in Wales this past summer on a bike trip. Couldn't wait to get teh Hell outta there after that.

I have ridden PCH in California, some spots around Denver and Deal's Gap. I love the gap but it does get crowded. I always go there on a Friday before a trackday weekend at Barber ang get in a warm up for the track. Not to bad on Fridays.....cherhola is nice long twisties but the coppers are afoot. I don't tickets so much.
