haha... get use to it.. these things love to drink!

Weekend I only got 140KM's.. and mind you im still breaking it in <6000rpm the whole way..

You have to plan ahead when it comes to fuel stops..

What fuel is everyone using? my dealer recommended the Vortex 98+

As for fuel... i got told one thing and one thing only....

STEER WELL CLEAR OF SHELL. iTS THE ONLY FUEL THAT nORTHSIDE mOTORCYCLES HAS RECOMMENDED I DO NOT USE AS THEY ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH IT.

98+ OCTANE ONLY from all other suppliers is OK!

130-160 seems to be the norm...

I use the Mobil high octane mostly

Does that go for the U.S as well? I've always heard Shell is supposed to be some of the better stuff?

I usually get about 90 miles/145 km before my light comes on.

Roadrunner - If you have SHELL VORTEX over there, tehn I would play it safe and leave it alone......

there's gotta be so many others you can use safely anyways!

Cheers,

Ant

Hmmm, thanks for the heads up. I'll have to take a look...

Any idea what's wrong with it? Is that oxygenated or something?

I was told by my Ducati Tech that if you want to run Shell, then the bike needs to be tuned for it, and you then use Shell all the time, otherwise avoid it he said...the occasional tank does not hurt....not sure of the reasoning, is apparently some additive they use.. i try to use caltex or BP 98

Sorry mate, I think you'll find it's "Shell V-Power" and "Caltex Vortex".
Btw, in NSW only two oil refineries exist, Shell and Caltex, and they sell to all the rest in NSW.
Buying from BP or Mobil etc, you're going to get one or the other or a mix.
Best of luck working out what you got, it's all coloured the same, 6 schooners, first fatal piss yellow, it's the law, Std ULP is purple.

As for fuel consumption, you do loss about 10%-15% with full termis' on.
For me, as of today just finished running the girl in, keeping it under 7k rpm, mid throttle load, full termis' and fuel trim at +23 got 146km when fuel light came on.

I stand corrected - it was Shell V-Power.

My most humble of apologies!!

Well, we do have Shell V-Power here. I've never heard anything bad about running it in bikes on this side of the pond though......kinda makes ya wonder :dunno

I get about 105km when fuel light comes on w full termi system using BP Ultimate 98 RON petrol. It's getting better since it has been run in because I only used to get ~95 km between fuel lights.

Maybe I don't fill it up enough??

I fill up sitting on the bike, just below the overflow, I hate leaving a 2 or 3 liter gap.....its a habbit Im glad I've got with this new S comming....although I might just get the larger CF tank with 21L or something.

Hmmm....I've got termis and have been getting decent milage (35-40 in town 45mph commuter mode).....the 10% ethanol blend is definately taking about 10-15% out of milage since they started pushing it.....real problem is the light comes on early and the tank is small and hard to fill completely when not vertical...

WOW!!!! you use ethinol????? I was told it would eat some of the "plastics" and seals over time, not to mention its bad performance...have I got that wrong....I've had car and bike mechanics say that....

I had a bad experience with a servo that sold ethinol fuel......my bike run realy rough....it was very noticable like it was breaking down in slow mo before my eye's.
So I went for a ride to use it up, got home emptied the tank on the grass, ran the bike dry then put good fuel in and it was back to normal, I never went to that servo again....never had that issue again.:idea
